For years I balanced the work/life tightrope, and now I’m celebrating the freedom – madly writing mysteries. My husband Bill and I both worked demanding schedules, and we moved to six different cities before landing back in Houston. Lucky for me, it wasn’t all work all the time. Two of a kind, we managed to travel across Africa for a year, sleeping in a Land Rover. We spent another year on a sailboat purchased in Sweden, destination Houston, by way of the Caribbean. That time we had a two-year-old on board, which I do not recommend.
Nowadays, my big adventure is writing, which turns out to be a lot harder than I ever imagined. “They say” write the book you’d like to read. My professional background is in the fields of mental health, law and academia, so my sleuth, Dr. Susanna Lucid, is a professor of criminal psychology, much smarter than I’ll ever be. I like a heroic but plausible protagonist.
My struggle now is balancing a writing regime with the activities of a big family and a bunch of fun-loving Texas friends tugging on my sleeve. Having the time of my life, and so excited to have signed with the wonderful Elizabeth Kracht of Kimberley Cameron & Associates to represent my novel. I’m working on my fourth mystery featuring the single-minded Susanna who never backs off.
